α² Canum Venaticorum variables

The α² Canum Venaticorum variables are main-sequence stars with late B to late A spectral types and some chemical peculiarities. Their strong magnetic fields are thought to produce chemical spots: regions on the stellar surface with difference abundances. These in turn cause brightness variations as the star rotates.
