Intermediate binaries (EB)

Intermediate binaries (β Lyr variables) comprise two stars so distorted by each others’ gravity that it is difficult to determine where the eclipses begin. Unlike the close binaries, it is still possible to distinguish the eclipses of different depths. The surface of the more distorted component might be more strongly bound to the other star, so that material flows from one star to the other.
